A Look Back at the 2018 Trade Show Season

SMEG USA appeared at three major US trade shows in just two months in 2018, with more to come

Jul 26th 2018

It’s the height of summer, but the holiday season is just around the corner, complete with an exciting new array of SMEG USA products and events to come with it.  But before then, take a look back at this year’s exciting winter and spring trade show season, which gave a lot of hints of what was going to be coming later on in the year.

First, SMEG USA made its fifth lifetime appearance at the gigantic Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, held this year at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL from January 9th to January 11th.

For the first time, the “Sicily Is My Love” Dolce&Gabbana SMEG small appliances were on display in North America.  Other new products included selected white appliances (the 2- Slice Toaster, 4-Slice Toaster, Electric Kettle, and Variable Temperature Kettle) and the HBF02 Hand Blender, both of which launched in the fall of 2017.  A variety of renowned small and large appliances, part of the Retro ‘50s, Classic and Linea collections, were also showcased, alongside a prototype of the new 48” Portofino Range, the always-popular FIAT partnership SMEG500 cooler, and another example of the one-of-a-kind hand painted Dolce&Gabbana refrigerators that were first shown in America in 2017.

Next on the agenda for SMEG was the four-day International Home+Housewares Show in Chicago, held at McCormick Place from March 10th to March 13th.  One of the largest trade shows in the US, the show showcases the latest in home and kitchen technology.

SMEG’s booth, which represented the largest booth in both SMEG USA’s four-year history at IHHS, and, in fact, in SMEG USA’s entire history, focused on the immensely successful small appliance collection.  Also appearing at this show for the first time was an array of products from the Sicily Is My Love Dolce&Gabbana collaboration, including several products that still have not been released, like the D&G espresso machine, blender, and stand mixer.  This show also featured the public debut of SMEG’s retro style drip coffee machine, an item that has been long-desired by fans of SMEG the world over!  Updated and enhanced iterations of the retro style kettle and 4-slice toaster were also teased.

Additionally, HSN host Keri Maletto was on-site throughout the show to give live cooking demonstrations using the latest SMEG products.  Maletto is a huge fan of SMEG’s kitchen appliances, showcasing them throughout her Food and Travel Instagram, @KeriMaletto, where fans can find multiple gourmet meals inspired by her travels.

Finally, SMEG USA was an exhibitor at the Architectural Digest Design Show in New York City from March 22nd through March 25th.  This was SMEG’s sixth time at the four-day event at Piers 92 & 94 on Manhattan’s West Side.  The Architectural Digest Design Show provides exhibitors and attendees great insight into what’s emerging in the kitchen space.

SMEG’s booth showcased a variety of new large appliances, such as the 30” and 48” colorful Portofino ranges and hoods that were teased in Orlando in January, and a new 24" built-in coffee machine in SMEG’s sleek “Linea” Aesthetic.  And, of course, SMEG’s collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana was on-hand in the form of the “Sicily Is My Love” small appliances collection, appearing for the first time in SMEG USA’s backyard of New York, along with an example of the hand-painted D&G refrigerator, different from the one that called the booth home in 2017.  The booth also displayed products from SMEG’s existing product lines, such as the Retro ‘50s, Classic and Linea collections.

These shows, along with the massive Group-wide SMEG booth at EuroCucina in Milan in April, were an extremely exciting way to begin the year, with much more to come as SMEG USA moves into the latter part of 2018, and towards an even brighter future in 2019.
